"It's a what?"

My friend Mike and I are playing a game of 2nd edition Gamma World way back around '85-'86 I think. Mike rolled up a character and was exploring the wilderness when he comes across some animals.

Me: "You look at the animals and they look like Podogs"
Mike: "Podogs? What's a podog and what kinda name is podog."
Me: "Well a podog is a dog, but mutated over time it's pretty large. As for the name I don't know why they came up with that."
Mike's Mom (who had been listening to our game session) "They got the name from looking at the dogs and saying, 'Awww, look at the Po' dogs.'"

Anyways, after that I always referred to them as the Po' dogs rather than 'podogs'. The apostrophe makes the difference.
