Montaigne Dogs!

Submitted by Miguel Valdespino

The characters: Antonio is a rogue protesting the cruel chancellor Cesar Rivera. This branded him an outlaw and his family had been imprisoned and was being tortured. Ramon is a rogue of a different sort, by day he is El Halcon, a gentleman bandit who terrorizes the highways; by night he masqerades as a noble who was wounded in recent battles. Ramon and Antonio have become fast friends by the time the third actor comes in, Daniella De La Rosa Bautista Estrella, a beautiful noble swordswoman with a secret.

The situation: We are attempting to free Antonio's family from the dungeon beneath the villa. Since Ramon is known at the villa, he escorts Daniella and her manservant (Antonio, who is very uncomfortable in this disguise). We arrive in our stolen carriage (Antonio doing his best, seeing as this is his first time driving one), and Antonio slips off as we enter the party. Daniella is radiant, attracting the attention of most of the men present. She also noticed that Rivera was talking to an Inquisitor in such a way as to reveal that they were up to no good.

A few minutes after Antonio signals that he has found them, Ramon leaps up on a table, shouting "Face my wrath, you foul Montaigne Dogs!", and then begins to fight imaginary opponents with his cane (not revealing that it is a sword-cane). Soon it becomes obvious that he is in the throes of battle madness. There were six brute squads (level 3) around the party and a couple of them came over to try and control Ramon. Because he was a guest, they were trying to use the ends of their polearms to pen Ramon in. Meanwhile, Daniella came over beeseeching that the guards not hurt him. Ramon in the meantime, was "accidentally" kicking various desserts into the brute squad, crying out "How could you do that to my sister? She was only seven years old!"

In all the hubub, Daniella arranged to be in the right place to get knocked to the ground by one of the guards, causing several guards to rush to her aid. She spends some time pulling guards down as she tries to get up. At this point Rivera notices Antonio and his family escaping through the main doors and shouts to his guards. Before they resopond, Ramon tips the table forward and runs behind it along the wall toward the main doors. Daniella finally gets to her feet by using a guard's family jewels as a handhold. needless to say, this brute went down.

Reaching the main doors, I shouted "Burn my father's villa? Then you too shall burn like the godless heathens you are!" (Ramon may be a madman, but with an inquisitor around, he was going to be a devout madman, by Theus) He then managed to hold back the brute squads, allowing Antonio to escape with his family. Antonio was playing true to his past, and was crippled by the guards outside before he left. At this time Daniella managed to get turned around in the confusion, "accidentally" knocking over a torchiere with her skirts, setting fire to a table. By then, the guards rushed me and were able to get out.

And that is how we stopped six brute squads without landing a blow. A true scene of comic madness.
